The government has approved on a plan to build Van Don District into an industrial and entertainment centre.

The government has issued Decision 226 about adjusting the general planning on Van Don economic zone planning until 2040. The planning will cover 2,171 square km of Van Don District including over 1,589 square km of sea area.

Van Don will be developed into an entertainment hub with casino, cruise and island tourism. It will be an international trading centre and provide unique and high-quality products. It will also be a high-end sea and island tourism area and a green, modern and smart urban area.

Two most important areas will be Cai Bau Island and Van Hai Islands. There will be five main development groups including luxury eco-resort, ecotourism in association with the protection of natural heritage, urban area and entertainment services, hi-tech industrial trade and logistics and services, and finally, the reserve to expand to the west.

The authorities in Quang Ninh Province were assigned by the prime minister to work with the Ministry of Construction to review the plan and build policies, financial and human resources for the infrastructure plans.
